Celebrating 15 Years of Impact and Purpose

CFI is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.

We are thrilled to celebrate 15 incredible years of service, growth, and transformation at Communities First, Inc.! This milestone is a testament to the dedication and passion of our board, staff, volunteers, and program participants. Together, we’ve made a profound impact across Michigan and Indiana, and the communities we serve continue to inspire us every day. Our work is truly a labor of love—driven by purpose and the shared commitment to creating lasting change.

Our journey began with a simple yet powerful conversation with a friend from New Orleans, who, like us, was working to make a difference through a nonprofit. Inspired by our vision, he sent us the application fee to file for our 501(c)(3) status, setting the foundation for the work we continue today.

Over the years, we’ve been presented with many opportunities, yet our commitment to the mission of Communities First, Inc. has remained unwavering. We are beyond grateful to have the opportunity to do work that truly matters, and we are honored to extend that opportunity to others who share our vision. The support of our donors and community partners has been invaluable—providing hope, encouragement, and the resources necessary to serve those in need.

As we celebrate our Crystal Year, we reflect on our past, appreciate the present moment, and look forward with renewed purpose and a bold vision for the future. Our three pillars—economic mobility, equitable real estate development, and engaged communities—have never been more critical. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive in a healthy, vibrant community, with access to affordable housing, economic opportunity, and innovative programming.
