About Communities First, Inc.
Fifteen years ago, Communities First, Inc. was a dream in the minds of founders Glenn and Essence Wilson, both Flint residents. Today, it is a thriving nonprofit organization that is changing the landscape of Flint and beyond. CFI has expanded to Detroit, Lansing, Saginaw, and Gary, Indiana.
At Communities First, Inc., our mission is to build healthy, vibrant communities. We specialize in Equitable Real Estate Development, Engaged Communities, and Economic Mobility.
CFI provides over 700 units of high-quality, affordable housing. These include historic renovations of two abandoned schools in Flint, which are now Oak Street Senior Apartments and Coolidge Park Apartments. Our developments encompass new builds, major property renovations, and acquisitions. Our residents have ongoing access to community support specialists.
CFI’s vibrant menu of programs includes our African American Film Series, Movies Under the Stars, Community Candor, our Community Development Mixers, and numerous opportunities to support entrepreneurs, local businesses, children, families, and the community. We serve 35,000 people each year.
