Marian Hall has been named to the National Register of Historic Places.

Flint, MI – Communities First, Inc. (CFI), a Flint-based nonprofit dedicated to building healthy, vibrant communities through economic development, affordable housing, and innovative programming, is proud to announce that Marian Hall has been officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Located at 529 Martin Luther King Avenue, Flint, MI 48502, Marian Hall is a century-old building situated on the northern edge of downtown Flint. It has long been a defining feature of the downtown skyline and cornerstone of the community. This designation recognizes its historical and architectural significance, ensuring its preservation for future generations.

CFI plans to redevelop Marian Hall into a mixed-use development, incorporating new residential and retail spaces. The project aims to restore the historic structure and construct a new five-story addition to its south, introducing new units of mixed-income housing and ground-floor commercial spaces to downtown Flint. This development helps to address the critical shortage of quality, affordable housing in Genesee County and complements recent investments in the area, such as Georgia Manor Apartments, Grand on University Apartments, the new Flint State Park and the Saginaw Street Rehabilitation Project.

“Communities First, Inc. is committed to empowering people and building communities,” said Glenn Wilson, President and CEO of CFI. “The addition of Marian Hall to the National Register of Historic Places is a testament to its importance in our city’s history. We are honored to lead the historic revitalization, which will provide much-needed housing and commercial opportunities, further enhancing the vibrancy of downtown Flint.”

This initiative aligns with CFI’s mission to develop and preserve affordable housing, stimulate economic growth, and enrich the cultural fabric of Flint. By transforming Marian Hall, CFI continues its dedication to fostering sustainable and equitable communities.
