WHAT: Communities First, Inc. is hosting Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director Sandra Thompson for a roundtable discussion with local leaders from the Flint Community. Director Thompson and Communities First, Inc. President Glenn Wilson will address efforts the government, industry, and community leaders are taking to advance affordable housing and economic development, followed by a discussion with attendees. The FHFA is the regulator and conservator for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the Federal Home Loan Bank System, and the Office of Finance, which oversees $8.4 trillion in the secondary mortgage market. BACKGROUND: The Federal Housing Finance Agency is an independent agency established by the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 (HERA) and is responsible for the effective supervision, regulation, and housing mission oversight of the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae), the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac) and the Federal Home Loan Bank System, which includes the 11 Federal Home Loan Banks (FHLBanks) and the Office of Finance (OF). The Agency’s mission is to ensure that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (the Enterprises) and the FHLBanks (together, “the regulated entities”) fulfill their mission by operating in a safe and sound manner to serve as a reliable source of liquidity and funding for housing finance and community investment.

Founded in 2010, the mission of Communities First, Inc. (CFI) is to build healthy, vibrant communities through economic development, affordable housing and innovative programming. The organization serves approximately 35,000 individuals annually across Michigan and Indiana. To date, CFI has generated or preserved over 600 quality, affordable housing units.
