On February 19, 2020, Communities First, Inc. hosted a community meeting regarding the future of Mary Crapo School in Swartz Creek. The organization had previously worked with the Swartz Creek School District to imagine the possibilities for the historic school. It was determined that a great use might be senior housing and over the last year and a half, Communities First, Inc. has been working on preliminary feasibility for a development at the school. The community meeting revealed several important things - Swartz Creek residents are engaged and passionate about their community, the ball field is very important, Mary Crapo School brings back fond memories for residents and most want to see the building used for something good rather than tearing it down.
Communities First, Inc. would like to thank those who came to the community meeting and gave their feedback. We appreciate the opportunity to share our vision for the future of the Mary Crapo School. Thank you for your participation and for sharing your thoughts.
As promised, we have published our responses to comments received at the community meeting regarding the proposed historic rehabilitation of the vacant Mary Crapo School Building and they can be found below.
