CFI Recognized as Michigan Community Impact Partner of the Year

On Friday, September 10th, Communities First, Inc. (CFI) was awarded Community Impact Partner of the Year by Michigan Humanities. As the state humanities council, Michigan Humanities recognized CFI for their “significant impact in 2020 despite the pandemic” and for making a lasting contribution to the cultural life of Michigan.”

Last year, the CFI reached over 18,000 people with safe, creative arts and culture programming. CFI’s dynamic programming includes reoccurring opportunities like Movies Under the Stars and the African American Film Series as well as initiatives that respond to evolving community needs. These efforts incorporate multiple humanities topics, from history to comparative cultures, which are explored through multiple formats including film and community discussion. By hosting a variety of humanities opportunities for community members, President and CEO, Glenn Wilson said “we try to have a little something for everyone”.

Wilson elaborated that the organization is passionate about this work because it is an extension of CFI’s wider efforts to empower people and build community. With a focus on supporting underserved populations such as low-to-moderate income families and those experiencing homelessness, Wilson said “everyone deserves access and opportunity”.
