Panelists:
Artina Sadler has over 20 years of Social Justice expertise. In addition to being the Chief of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the Huron-Clinton Metroparks, Artina teaches Cultural Competence in Healthcare, with Traci Kim, at the University of Michigan-Flint. Artina is a professional trainer and curriculum designer in the areas of: Cultural Competence, Facilitator Training and Community Engagement. She has a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Michigan-Flint and an MBA from Baker Center for Graduate Studies. Artina has attended numerous trainings and has been a recurring guest speaker for the Tendaji Talks speaker series. Artina is a 2017 Robert Wood Johnson, Culture of Health Leader; but she is most proud to be the mother of three Black Men.

Traci J. Kim, MA, CMPE has taught Cultural Competence in Healthcare at the University of Michigan-Flint for the past 13 years with Artina Sadler. She is a Certified Medical Practice Executive and has been a healthcare administrator in Flint for the past 24 years. In addition, Traci serves as a consultant and trainer for organizations that want to grow in cultural competence. She has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in Health Communication from Michigan State University. Traci has participated in various racial justice workshops including Challenging Racism and Train the Trainer for Challenging Racism (YWCA Flint) and Undoing Racism (The Peoples’ Institute for Survival and Beyond). She is also a recurring guest speaker for the Tendaji Talks in Flint and is a proud team member of Communities First Inc.

Anthony Kim is a junior attending Washington and Lee University in Virginia. He is majoring in sociology with a minor in poverty and human capabilities studies. He recently interned for the Parks and People Foundation in Baltimore, where he worked with youth on environmental issues, the fine arts, and educational enrichment. He is also a team member for Communities First Inc.

Darnell was born and raised in the City of Detroit and attended Cass Technical High School. Upon graduating he was hired as a police officer at the MSU Police Department. Darnell left MSU Police Department to take a position with the City of Auburn Hills Police Department. As a police officer he worked road patrol, community policing, narcotics and other special assignments.Darnell is currently employed full time with the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards, the regulatory agency for all law enforcement entities in the State of Michigan. They oversee training for police agencies as well as develop curriculum for police academies and set licensing standards.

Darnell received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2007. He began teaching in 2008 and he is currently an adjunct professor at Macomb Community College in their Criminal Justice program. Darnell is the founder and owner of PRAT LLC a consulting company that specializes in Inspirational Speaking engagements and soft skills training for organizations in Cultural Competency, Verbal De-Escalation, Implicit Bias, Stress Management and other training.

Dr. Ben Pauli is an Assistant Professor of Social Science at Kettering University. A resident of Flint since 2015, he has been involved in the community in a variety of ways. He was a member of the Flint City Charter Review Advisory Committee, a founding member of Montessori for Flint, and he currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors of the Environmental Transformation Movement of Flint. He has also been involved in the response to the Flint water crisis as an activist, researcher, and member of a multi-university scientific team, and is the author of Flint Fights Back: Environmental Justice and Democracy in the Flint Water Crisis (MIT Press 2019).
