Gather up your blankets and lawn chairs, Movies Under the Stars is almost here! Communities First, Inc. brings the popular summer outdoor film series to Detroit on September 21, 2018.

The night begins with a pre-party that includes a community resource fair, inflatables, lawn games, dancing and music. The pre-party starts at 7pm and the films start at dusk. Each guest will receive a bag of popcorn, a drink and candy to enjoy during the movie. The experience is free however, donations are encouraged.

Providing free and low-cost entertainment for families is very important to the organization. The series celebrates five years in Flint and two years in Saginaw. Glenn Wilson, President and CEO said, "Movies Under the Stars is more than just an event but we've built an experience that the community looks forward to each year. We are thrilled to be bringing Movies Under the Stars to Detroit.”

The community voted for the film, The Sandlot, by way of a Facebook poll. A summary of the film is as follows: When Scottie Smalls (Thomas Guiry) moves to a new neighborhood, he manages to make friends with a group of kids who play baseball at the sandlot. Together they go on a series of funny and touching adventures. The boys run into trouble when Smalls borrows a ball from his stepdad that gets hit over a fence.

Sponsors for this amazing event include: PNC Bank, Detroit PAL and Cinnaire.
