Former elementary school to become senior living center

FLINT -- A Flint-based non-profit is taking what is old and making it new again.
Flint officials gathered to celebrate the renovation of a century old historic building in Flint Friday.
The Old Oak Elementary located across from the White Horse Tavern in the Grand Traverse neighborhood will soon be home to seniors.
Dignitaries joined the celebration including U.S. Representative Dan Kildee and Flint Mayor Dayne Walling.
communities first incorporated is the non-profit behind the five million dollar senior housing project.
Residents who live in the area say the revitalization is good news.
"Residents have cherished Oak School for years and we have been excited to hear about plans come and go but we have been able to be a part of the planning process and we are just so excited that it is just actually happening," said resident, Alycia Socia.
There will be 22 units for senior citizens in the new building.
